Located in the heart of Toronto’s business and entertainment centers, South Hill offers convenient access to various amenities, including esteemed public, private, and Catholic schools.

History

Around 12,000 years ago, during the end of the Ice Age, this land was once part of an ancient glacial river known as the “Iroquois River.” As the glaciers melted, this area transformed into what is now Lake Ontario.

Behind the Iroquois River lies a landscape rich with dense forests, riverbanks, ponds, and waterfalls, adorning the Avenue Rd Hill with beautiful natural scenery.

Housing

While it may not be as renowned as Rosedale, South Hill boasts some of the largest homes in Toronto. Many of these houses are situated at the highest points of Avenue Road Hill, offering stunning views of downtown Toronto and the picturesque Lake Ontario.

The first generation of homes in South Hill was built between 1890 and 1920. Additionally, there are newer townhouses from the past 20 years, and luxurious apartments along Avenue Rd primarily used for rental purposes.

Lifestyle

Much like other upscale Toronto neighborhoods, shopping is a favorite pastime for residents. A short drive or public transit ride will take them to the shopping centers in Forest Hill and Yorkville.

Fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers enjoy the Nordheimer Ravine, adjacent to Sir Winston Churchill Park. The park features tennis courts, a children’s playground, jogging paths, and more. Additionally, Brown School and the community center offer indoor swimming pools, gyms, and two tennis courts.

Transportation

Public transit is convenient, with buses on Avenue Rd directly connecting to Museum Subway Station. For drivers, the area provides easy access to major roads like Yonge St, Avenue Rd, and Bathurst St.
